Understanding and Overcoming Anxiety

You’re tired of struggling with feeling worried, nervous, and afraid.

Anxiety can be crippling. It can sink its claws into everything from your career to your personal relationships with both your family and friends. It can be a demon on your shoulder whispering you’re not good enough, or worse making you feel like you shouldn’t even try. You don’t have to carry that weight alone, I can help with therapy for anxiety treatment.

You may struggle with a feeling of perfectionism that, when left unchecked, can lead to a feeling that nothing is ever going to be good enough. That feeling can easily slide toward a helpless spiral of uneasiness to try to do anything at all if it can’t be done perfectly, both at work and at home.

Anxiety Affects Relationships & Work

In a relationship, people who suffer from severe anxiety are often people pleasers, at the expense of communicating their own needs and wants. They sacrifice their boundaries out of fear they aren’t permitted to voice their own desires, fearful their partner would respond with anger or disappointment, which in turn surrenders their confidence. Their abandonment demon triggers them to think “if you’re not perfect they will leave.” This prevents people from staying present in their everyday lives or creating a deeper connection with their loved ones.

At work, their productivity can be stifled with perfection paralysis or worse, preventing them from achieving the accomplishments they often crave. This leads to missed deadlines, self-doubt in conversations with their peers and managers, and performance anxiety in presentations or speeches. They are so focused on doing on the performance and response they give way to the substance. People with anxiety often have trouble creating meaningful relationships with peers, managers, and mentors which locks their ability to communicate effectively, share opinions and ideas, and seek feedback for growth.

Common Anxiety Symptoms Include:

  • Feeling nervous, irritable, anxious, and panicky

  • Physical anxiety symptoms, like sweaty palms, racing heart, lightheadedness, and muscle tension

  • Avoiding or leaving situations that cause anxiety

  • Trying to do things perfectly

  • Thinking of the worst things that might happen

  • Anticipating feeling nervous, panicked, and failing in the future and then avoiding those situations

Therapy for Anxiety Treatment

I can help as a Los Angeles anxiety therapist. The most evidence-based anxiety treatment is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This anxiety therapy method draws a connection between your thoughts, behaviors, and anxieties. Together we dive deep into how your thoughts and actions contribute to or maintain your anxiety. Then we identify negative thoughts and distortions in thoughts and use techniques to shift your mindset to be more flexible and balanced. We examine how different behaviors like avoidance can give power to your anxiety, and gradually confront your fear to show you it either doesn’t exist or isn’t as bad as you thought.

I am an industry leader in this form of anxiety treatment, recognized as a diplomat in CBT with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, founded by the grandfather of Cognitive Therapy, Dr. Aaron Beck. With almost 20 years of experience in CBT, I have helped hundreds of people decrease their anxiety and have researched anxiety disorders in my Ph.D. program. CBT doesn’t always work in a vacuum. I also incorporate attachment-based therapy, interpersonal therapy, and ego work. The integrative approach at Flourishment Psychology, along with a sense of humor and flexibility, optimizes the effects of CBT.
